Girl Talk- Only sensitive, caring guys are welcome

Category: Health and Wellness

Well girls, this is your space. Talk about anything female-related. Only guys who are sensitive and caring are welcome here. I would put that Only Girls are welcome, but more than likey, a guy will undoubtedly post something here anyway. So, if you're a guy and you're going to put someone down or make fun of something, here is not the place to do so. I wish there were a way to block anyone with the "male" checkbox checked in their profile, but I don't think it's possible. So, this isn't the place to expose all your deepestpersonal problems, unless you feel comfortable, that is, but rather a place to discuss women's health issues. We are very unique beings and deserve a board of our own. So, like I said: Talk about anything female-related whether it's periods, exercises, herbal suplements, feminine hygene or even your favorite acne treatment. If you are at all uncomfortable with this topic, please, don't post. This topic is simply for women who want to share ideas and ask questions related to Women's Health, and if there's a non-judgemental guy out there willing to give advice or ask something, so be it. Good luck, and have fun, ladies!

I came across this board, and while we're on this subject, I'd think it appropriate to ask this question. And because a majority of us are visually impaired, I was just kind of looking for a few pointers. How do you go about cleaning up a mess while you are on your period? Like I said, I'm just looking for some tips as far as that is concerned. For example, if for some reason I didn't put my pad on right, it may get a little on the edges, and well, that doesn't easily come off when washed. And so my grandma expects me to clean it by hand, but when I do that, it is hard to tell if the blood came off, because it is soaked. And so I usually have to wait until it dries in order to be able to tell. My grandma says that I should be able to tell by smell, but I have never been able to tell just by smelling, any suggestions?

Post 3 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 10:01:03

well i'm always paranoid that'll happen so i use a tampon and pad for backup just in case, and change frequently. i don't see how smelling it will tell you if there's still blood after you washed it. I usually where different panties then usual when i'm on my period so if i do leak, i could just soak it in bleach and water for a bit and scrub. but if it's my nicer panties or whatever if i'm at school and not at home, it'll dry and that's when it's a bitch to get off when i go home and scrub with cold water and soap. But then again, i buy panties a lot so i'll just replace them if that happens lol.

Post 4 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 14:22:11

tampon FTW

Post 5 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 15:00:01

And what is that suposed to mean? Anyway, back on the subject. I usually just wash my dirty panties shortly after they get blood on them, but, then again, I go through a lot of panties. I buy the cheap cotton Haine's panties for the simple fact that I'd rather dirty up something cheap than somethingexpensive and sexy. My periods are relatively normal, so when I know that I know I'mnot about to start, I can break out my sexy panties for the night. If you've got apartner/husband, you'll understand.

Post 6 by redgirl34 (Scottish) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 15:30:13

I ware black pants so the blood doesn't show up as much.

Post 7 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 16:21:27

I agreew ith others here. Tampon, with pad as back-up. But if you for some reason can't use tampons, and I know some women who can't, then just take extra care when placing your pad, and change frequently. Also, if you know you've made a mess and are in a position to do so, wash the clothes as soon as possible. I've heard that washing panties in the sink with cold water with shampoo can get blood out, but I don't know if that's true or not. And the idea that you could tell by smell if you got all the blood is ludicrous. Is your Grandma one of those who thinks we as blind people have super senses to make up for no vision?

Post 8 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 20:43:28

Have you considered using the menstrual cup? It's been discussed on another board topic here. If you haven't read it, take a look.

If you think the cup isn't something you're ready to try, I suggest the pads with wings. The wings help tremendously for leaks that occur more toward the sides of underwear.

Post 9 by Preciosa (The precious one and her littledog too.) on Saturday, 07-Feb-2009 21:34:31

I used to go through several pair of panties every period until i started using my diva cup. seriously, give the menstrual cup some consideration. they're wonderful! As far as getting stains out, i did the cold water and shampoo bit if i didn't have any spray-n-wash around.

Post 10 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 2:42:49

Ok ladies, I have a question: Which do you prefer to use to get rid of body hair? Do you use a razor or Nair? If you use a razor, is it disposable or electric? I've heard that some people use Nair and I'm interested in trying it. Has anyone had luck with it? And also, if you use a razor that's not electric, what's the brand that knicks yz the least? I've used a few brands; Venus was one of them, and I can't remember the others and all of them either fall apart too easily or cause some nasty knicks. So, in short, that's why I'm thinking of using Nair.

Post 11 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 5:04:13

Hi, Brandi. I use a regular razor. It's the Gillette Venus Vibrance, and I really like it. I've never had a problem with knicking myself. Nare just sounds freakin' painful. *Grin*

Post 12 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 7:17:07

I'm terrafied of nicking myself with a regular raisor. I'm a sissy. I use Veete, not sure of the spelling right now. It's like Nair but I've found it's more sensative. But I also have an electric raisor for things besides my legs, unless I'm really bored and want to take forever shaving.
Has anyone used that smoothe away stuff that is supposed to sand away the hair? My friend was talking about trying it.
And FTW means for the win, sorry.

Post 13 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 17:46:57

I use the neet as well; works very well for everything. also use the razor with the shaving gel built into it; cant remember for sure but I think its called the intuition; I know its pink. I only use it for armpits though; for everything else I use the neet.

Post 14 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 19:05:30

Who makes the Intuition? I mean, is it Gillette, or some other brand?

Post 15 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 19:09:53

i think its made by chic.

Post 16 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 20:51:36

Alicia, I think you'll find that your Gillette has a built in moisturising pad, as I know the men's versions of those do, the fusion power, and stealth power, which are a similar product.
I also read somewhere that you shouldn't use hair removal creams around your genitals as the skin is way too sensative, so don't know if there have been some more specific products designed for that.

Post 17 by Nicky (And I aprove this message.) on Sunday, 08-Feb-2009 23:19:46

I use a mens raiser, My fiance had a spair when I was in need and i love it and now use it. I was wondering wear you get the Deva cup? I am thinking about getting one or two depending on cost and my cash ballence.

Post 18 by Skyla (move over school!) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 0:05:32

For hair-removal between your legs, I'd suggest getting a Brazilian waxing done. It's thorough and clean, but it does take getting used to.

Post 19 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 0:46:51

Brazilian waxing? Ouch ...
i've tried nare, but the last time i used it, it burned, so I just stick with a regular razor. can't remember which one I use, though.

Post 20 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 14:16:01

nair burns me too. no fun.

Post 21 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 16:55:35

I tried that thing that's supposed to sand away the hair, but it didn't work for me. It's entirely possible that there's something I did wrong or didnt do at all though, lol. Nair is horrible horrible, hate the feel and the smel of it. I just use regular razors for now, with the moisturizing strip things. I hardly ever cut myself and when I do it's not that bad at all, but I have yet to find something that doesn't irritate my skin, so shaving is a less than pleasant experience. I have super sensitive skin--everything seems to irritate it in some way. Pretty lame. I've wanted to try Veet or however it's spelled, but wasn't sure if it would just be something else like Nair.

Post 22 by Preciosa (The precious one and her littledog too.) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 19:43:48

Nair would be ok if it didn't stink... As for the diva cup, I got mine at www.southcoastshopping.com. also, iherb.com usually has them for the least amount of money.

Post 23 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 19:53:40

the neet is the same type of thing as nair; smells like a perm solution but does a damn good job of removing hair. I dont have any skin irretation from using it, and since my cerebral palsy makes shaving with a razor difficult, the neet is a perfect solution for me.

Post 24 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 19:57:47

i use neet, i'm interested in the deva cup thing. and deffinitly ouch to the brizilian wax.

Post 25 by Inspired Chick (Zone BBS Addict) on Monday, 09-Feb-2009 20:41:17

ok what i am wondering is this. Why is the diva cup only sold online? Guess it isn't something that can be bought at the store? LOL As far as nair went, it burned my arm, so I don't use it. I just use a regular eletric razor.

Post 26 by Skyla (move over school!) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 0:03:19

For those interested in menstrual cups, there are several different kinds available--not just the diva. Check out the menstrual cups thread, or go to menstrualcups.org (which is a really helpful website). I use a small lady cup; it's the smallest cup available, and I had more success with it than with the diva (though I know some women who swear by their divas!).
As for the Brazilian wax, it's painful but definitely withstandable.

Post 27 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 0:49:05

I am going to try the Veet stuff. Yeah Flcomputergeek, I have cerebral palsy too, which is probably why I knick so much. Yeah, I've heard Nair is stinky, but I har Veet is too, but if Veet is less harsh on the skin, I'll try it. Ok, another question: What about vaginal cleansing? Do you do it, do you agree with it? And what do you use? A friend of mine told me abo8t something called Noroform and she says it's like a capsule that you insert in to your vagina right after period ends and it cleans your vagina by itself. I guess you wear a pad or your cup and it just leaks in to there and cleans you out. Mind you when I ask a question, it's ok to answer other previous questions as well. We don't hve to stop on a particular subject just to answer the new question. This has been a very informative topic for me, and I hope it's helped others. Just thought I'd clear all that up.

Post 28 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 1:57:02

Ok, well i did not read all of the posts that were here since I've been away, but as for about my grandma being one of those people that thinks blind people have extra scenses, yeah, she does think that! Lol!
I have used nare in the past, and i recommend it to anyone who considers it. It does not hurt, and very easy to use, only you will have to make sure you only leave it on for between ten and twelve minutes, but no longer than 15, or it'll burn your skin. But it is not painful!
I normally use a regular raisor though, i just think it's faster. And btw, my grandma also does not like my trying to get rid of the unwanted hair by shaving, or anything to that nature; she's been obsessed with me trying out the lazor treatment, which I dont trust nor do I have the money for...
But anyway, all for now! Lol!

Post 29 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 5:16:30

I'm definitely going to take a look at getting one of those menstrual cups. they sound easier to deal with than these stupid, diaper-like pads.

Post 30 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 7:12:13

Brazilian wax? Ouchy! How long does that stay good for, before the hair grows back? And wouldn't it be expensive?

I tried several different kinds of menstrual cups, and they absolutely didn't work for me. It felt really, really uncomfortable. But if they work for others here, great.

Post 31 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 8:52:32

I leave the neet on for between 3 and 5 minutes.
Funny CP-related shaving story: one day I was shaving my legs with one of those supposedly cut-proof razors. I felt the razor slip but it didnt hurt so thought nothing of it. I got out the shower, dressed, walked downstairs and was pouring myself a glass of gatorade when my sister exclaimed, "Oh my God! Your legs are bleeding!" turns out that when the razor slipped, I'd cut both my ankles without realizing it. It was pretty bad.

Post 32 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 11:36:37

I've heard, and read many health articles, from several gynecologists and other medical professionals who say that women really shouldn't put douche or any other kind of "cleansing" product into their vaginas. They say that the vagina is an amazing part of the body, and it takes care of itself, especially when it comes to cleansing. Obviously, of course you still need to keep it clean through bathing, but using products that claim to be cleansers can actually cause trouble rather than doing something helpful.

Post 33 by Click_Clash (No Average Angel) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 14:03:54

Nare hurts like a biiiiiitch! lol. I use the intuition razor, but I'm gonna look into switching as soon as I can, because I find that after using a new cartridge only twice, it becomes dull and half the soap is gone.

Becky

Post 34 by Skyla (move over school!) on Tuesday, 10-Feb-2009 15:10:48

Amen to Gemini's post. Your vagina is a fantastic part of your body; it cleans itself through vaginal secretions and discharge, so no douche sprays are needed whatsoever. wash yourself thoroughly when you shower, and you should be just fine.
To sister dawn, yup, brazilians do hurt a bit. If you've had any kind of waxing done though, the pain is quite tolerable, especially after you've already had it done once. They usually cost anywhere from 30-50 dollars, and you generally need to get them done every six weeks or so. I really like getting them just because of how thorough they are (I find that with shaving, I have to do it more frequently. Also, it's hard to get all the hair).
And nymphadora, definitely check out menstrual cups!

Post 35 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Wednesday, 11-Feb-2009 9:53:20

boo hiss it signed me out let's try this post again
1. I'll have to try veet. I've found nare to be quite painful
2. Fem washes and most anything that isn't natural should not enter that part of the body. The balence of a woman's womanly parts is very delacate, and if you mess with it too much you may get infections, or be more ciceptable to the nasties that you could get from a partner.
3. My cup is my savior. My body bleeds in a way that i can even bleed around wings. Ug at it.

4. My turn for a question. I have a condition that I've mentioned before called vulvar vestibulitis. A basic deffinission for those that have not seen me post about it before is that any pressure on the vestabule of my lady parts is quite painful. My question for you is what pozissions in coitis do you ladies find to put the least amount of preasure on you?

I use pads now, but am always paranoid about oder, that's why the diva cup interested me and i do have one, any help greatly appreciated

I'm going to be so embarrassed if I don't get this right, but... Answering Post 35: When I was very pregnant with my first child, the position that gave methe most control was me on top. Another position that I've heard about but could never master was the spooning position where he holds you from behind while you're both lying on your sides and inserts his penis in to you that way. The other position that's nice is the laying on your sides facing each other and having sex that way.

Post 38 by Skyla (move over school!) on Thursday, 12-Feb-2009 1:05:00

To post 35, there are exercises that you can learn from a sex therapist that will help you relax the muscles used during intercourse. I have a friend with VVS, and she found the visits to a sex therapist quite helpful.

Post 39 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Thursday, 12-Feb-2009 3:59:35

Aren't thos known as Kagle exercises? probably spelled wrong, but hey ...

Post 40 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Thursday, 12-Feb-2009 8:46:07

The kaigle exersizes actually help with control or for tightening. A good one if the guy likes a girl to feel tightish which most do.

Thank you sunshine and rain for your advice.

for the cup I'll tell you a couple of folds that are simple or theat were easily masterable.

The c fold the easiest fold although slightly daunting.
pointing the stem down you push the cup flatt, and then fold it in half. Not like bring the stem up to the top, but in the same direction you folded in half.

Diamond fold. fold the cup in half like you'd start a c fold. take one of the top corners of the cup and bend it down toward the bottom of the cup so you have a point.
stick the pointy part in first pointing toward your rear, and slide it in until it opens itself.
Then make sure that it is all the way open. If one side looks flat you can usually poll on the stem slightly and it will readjust.

Post 41 by Skyla (move over school!) on Thursday, 12-Feb-2009 15:25:02

No, the exercises for people with VVS are not the usual kegel exercises we'd use to help with cup insertion/removal; they involve different steps, I think, though I don't know the specifics. That's why I suggested a sex therapists; they can be really helpful.

Post 42 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Friday, 13-Feb-2009 0:26:06

That diamond fold sound really good. I should try that one. The C fold always wants to come open on me. Thanks for that.

Post 43 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Friday, 13-Feb-2009 1:34:14

That spoon position sounds cool!

Post 44 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Saturday, 14-Feb-2009 10:58:11

The exersizes can be used for holding the cup in place, for building up muscle for more control during sex, and are also very usefull after a woman has a baby. The muscles are dammaged during the birthing process, and Doctors reccomend them in order to assist the reuse of them.
later this evening I'll find the chapter in my old text book and give the instructions for them and summerize them here. They also have caigel exersizes for men in order to keep them from premature ejaculation.

Post 45 by blw1978 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 20-Feb-2009 20:35:21

Hi, back to the rayzor topic, I like Schick's intuition. If you find your soap bars last longer than your blades, use the backside of the bar for your underarms. I find that this helps you go through the moisturizer faster. I used Venus Breeze, but I found that the shave bars came off of the blade. As for washing blood off of clothes, try using hydrogen peroxide on the spot before you wash it. if possible, pour the liquid on from the underside of the stain, that way you're not rubbing in the stain. I too avoid wearing my nicer panties during that time. If I have a problem, the panties usually get tossed, but it's not a horrible idea to have a few pair for your period, that way if you spring a leak, you're not ruining a new pair. I'm pretty curvy on my upper half. Anyon else but me have trouble finding bras that fit propperly. What's your favorite bra brand? I like Bally or Platex. I had a Victoria's secret bra one time, and it was the worst one I've ever owned. It didn't even last a month. I washed it once, and it totally unraveled. I know you're not supposed to dry bras, and I don't think I did. Girls: underwire or not?

Post 46 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Friday, 20-Feb-2009 21:09:32

Underwire. I hate flopping, it's just not a great feeling for me. Yes, I too have a terrible time finding a good bra. When I was pregnant with my son, I started wearing nursing bras because they were more roomy and they helped catch qe colostrum better when I was leaking. Now, I just wear nursing bras. They're more comfortable to me. Now that I'm pregnant again, I'm discovering that my breasts seem to be growing more than they did with Nathaniel. Weird, but I guess that means it's time to go bra shopping again. It's fine 'cuz these are starting to fall apart. I honestly can't remember the brand of my bras, but I think they're Playtex. If you have bigger
breasts like I do, Playtex caters more to us, it seems.

Post 58 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Monday, 23-Feb-2009 18:12:05

The wires also brake in those bras, lol. I have terrible trouble with the bloody things snapping in the middle so the straps fall off one side. I've also had a couple of wires poke out the ends as well.

Post 59 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 24-Feb-2009 13:38:34

Wires coming out of bras is annoying. Any ideas on how to fix this? Hahaha.

Post 60 by blw1978 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 27-Feb-2009 1:11:42

Hi ladies, don't wash bras in the washing machine. This can bend the wires and weaken the fabric. Next, it's better not to dry them in the dryer. If you have to, put them on the lowest setting. As for wires poking out, check to make sure that the fabric surrounding the wire is pretty strong. Also, make sure the cup fits properly. If it doesn't, you may end up having the wire pock your arms if you lift them up (ouch). Always hook your bras on the first hook. Move it to other ones as the bra wears out. Hth.

smoothe away is, hmm, it's not sand paper, but it's that kind of idea. The paper let's call it, is smoothe to the touch, but can irritate your skin if not careful.
I have pretty thick and long hair, or I did when first using smoothe away. It didn't work well. But for upkeeping a shave, or doing other small non sensative areas, it's great. Just watch you don't rub too hard. Irritated skin hurts.

Post 65 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Thursday, 12-Mar-2009 9:46:45

smooth away is a flat round pad with a handle that you could put your hand through. just rub the smooth away up and down your legs and it takes the hair off. Dont need any water or soap or shaving gel. I agree with the last poster though in that smooth away is not the best option for removing long or thick hair.

I agree with post 66; I hate shaving but its gotta be done. the smooth away is at bed bath and beyond; costs like 9 bucks.

Try going to the doctor for a stronger medication for period symptoms. Maybe Midol or Tylenol just aren't strong enough. You may also want to have your hormone levels tested. If something's out of whack, I'm sure your doc could prescribe something to manage the problem.

Post 74 by Emerald-Hourglass (Account disabled) on Saturday, 21-Mar-2009 21:31:07

anyone have really short periods, i'm not complaining but hope it doesn't mean anything is wrong but sometimes i'll get 2 or 3 day cycles. lol. no cramps or anything
then there's times i'll get major cramps but still only lasts me 2 or 3 days.

Post 75 by Selene (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 21-Mar-2009 23:07:28

Hi. As far as painful periods go, on average, I experience mild to severe discomfort off and on for the first two days. I am 26, and the discomfort itself and the length of it was longer when I was younger. My pains/discomfort include cramps, bloating/water retension, and the pressure from those two things is what often leads to the upset stomach, and yes, I also get headaches. I take multi-symptom pamprin, and have preferred it to other over-the-counter medications for these symptoms for close to 15 years. I also HIGHLY recommend these thermal patch things that you stick on the inside of your underware so they are against your belly below your navel, or more exactly, the area in front of your uterus. When you open up the package and take the back off, resulting in one side being sticky, and then place it on the inside of your panties, it will shortly become warm. You can wear them for several hours, though I cannot remember quite how long, and they provide the most pain relief from these symptoms than anything else I've tried. The down sides include the high price, and that, for some people, the heat can prove to be too hot, and there is no way to really adjust it. I wish I could tell you more exactly, but I believe that they're called something like Thermacare patches, or something like that, and they make ones that are specifically for menstrual pain relief, and others in different sizes for pain relief for muscles in other parts of the body. ---------- Ok, sorry if I am writing too much in one post, this is simply the first time I am posting on here, and I read all of the posts and found that I had/have a lot to say. So I hope this is cool... ----- Next, I still use tampons with a panty-liner, and a pad at night, though I am planning on trying the diva cup soon, and I appreciate the advice posted on here about them. I recommend buying them on drugstore.com, a great site to get all kinds of personal and non-personal stuff all by yourself, from condoms, to vibrators, to feminine products, to granola bars, to shampoo, just to give you an idea, and it is fairly accessible.--f. y. i. I'm a JAWS user, and can, and do, review a lot of websites. --- Next, as far as sex positions go, in my opinion, girl on top gives, by far, the most freedom in how it feels to you, because you get to choose exactly how you're positioned, how far you take him in, and you can move around all you want, taking your time, until it feels the best for you. Reverse girl on top, often called reverse cowgirl, works nicely also. --- Next, my bra beliefs include that one should never ever dry ones bras, i.e. always air dry using a drying rack, laying them out, or something else like that. Secondly, Machine washing is fine in my opinion as long as you use lingerie bags, and in fact, they even make structured ones and things called bra-buddies, which are also available on drugstore.com, to help your bras keep their shape even more securely in the washer. And believe me, I have used this method for years now and my bras last a very long time. As far as the underwires go, yes, I wear them, almost exclusively, but soft cup bras can be nice too, though I would recommend that anyone over a B cup stick with an underwire for support. As far as the wire coming out/poking out, in my experience, that will probably happen at some point for all bras, whether it be in 3 months or 6 years, even for the really expensive ones. Using the cleaning method I mentioned above should result in this problem happening less frequently. If and when the wire does come out, I have fixed, or had fixed by a friend, many of these situations with a needle and thread. You simply poke the wire back in and sew it up, though getting the wire to stay all the way in while you stich can prove difficult at times.

Post 76 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 22-Mar-2009 6:07:54

Selene, I've heard of those Thermacare patches, but never tried them. I might have to, though. My cramps are mild to moderate, but hey, any relief is good. And no, you did not write too much in your post.

And, Caribiean Princess, I get really short periods, too. I used to have longer ones, till after my tubal ligation surgery, and then they got drastically shorter. It doesn't seem to cause any problems though, and my doctor says not to worry about it, so I don't.

any of you guys use an electric razor to shave?

Post 81 by HauntedReverie (doing the bad mango) on Saturday, 28-Mar-2009 17:59:10

I do. Mainly because I'm terrified of cutting myself, something I'm highly likely to do. Though I find using hair removal cream way faster, even if it is a mess. As long as it coincides with a shower it's not bad.

Post 82 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 29-Mar-2009 4:54:13

I used to when I was a lot younger, but they don't work very well, in my opinion. I was afraid of cutting myself, too, but my Mom showed me how to shave with a regular razor when I was a teenager, and I've been doing that for years. On the occasions when I have cut myself, it's never been badly at all, and it's worth it to actually get a good shave.

Post 83 by flcomputergeek (Its my opinion, take it or leave it. ) on Sunday, 29-Mar-2009 9:47:49

I never found the electric razors to be effective; it never gave a close shave. After my grandma saw the scars from the accidental ankle-slip that I described in an earlier post on this board, she became convinced that an electric razor should be my only method of shaving. that was over ten years ago and she still buys them for me. I never find electric razors to be useful.

Post 84 by Musical Ambition (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Sunday, 29-Mar-2009 13:40:21

I do use an electric razor for my binkini line area. I just don't like using a regular razor in that particular area. LOL. And waxing down there is definitely out of the question! As others have said, though, I don't care to use one for my legs.

Post 85 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 29-Mar-2009 17:04:40

Just cuz your Grandma buys them doesn't mean you have to use them. Smile. i'd just let her think you are, if she refuses to think otherwise.

Post 86 by The Bad Influence (kicking ass and dying trying) on Monday, 30-Mar-2009 6:03:50

I don’t usually have heavy periods, or regular periods for that matter, but lately I have been having really bad ones. I’m talking panty soaking stomach cramping day ruening 10 day long ones. This just started about 4 months ago, and is kind of scarry seeing as how use to I would only spot for a fiew days once about every 4 months, that’s it, about three itty bitty periods a year. I was so lucky, but I think my body is now catching up with all of those small and missed ones. But I have always got very nauseated and really home sick like. Every thing would make me cry and I would want to throw up if my husband even thought about touching me. it’s really a mizrable experience for me. I have PCOS and the doctor just relates every thing I just rote to that. bleh

I want want want to try the deva cup, but I really need to read up on how to clean it and things of that nature before deciding.

And, spoon sex is aussom, I’m a fat girl, so it’s much better for us that way as far as how deep he gets and things of that nature. We do do other ways, but I think spoon is the best and girl on top is second best, of course. I’ve tried reverse cow girl a fiew times, and I do like it also, but usually am too lazy or tired to do it, I know, I must be a bad sex partner, lol, but taking care of a baby really craps you out.

I do dry my braws, but it’s only because all of my braws are old and over 3 years old, so at this point, I’m just waiting for them to fall apart. Lol.

Funny enough, I have lingerie bags, but don’t use them for my braws, I use them for the baby’s socks, lol so they don’t get lost or sepperated or any thing.

I use wire, I have to, being a double d leaves no other option. It sucks, I hate it because I haven’t found a braw that I can ware comfortably with wires, but once again, I haven’t bot a new braw in over 3 years so maybe that’s the problem.

As for shaving, I use to use the mock three, it has no fancy soap strips or any thing like that but god does it do a clean cut close smooth shave. Yeah, it’s a guy’s razer, so what. My roommate Yvonne recently talked me in to using a venus, I think, and it’s ok, but I don’t like the fact that the blade goes dull after 2 or three uses, and that the soap strips fall off easily. Those things added with the steap price of the blades make me want to stick to the mock three. Lol, I know I’m a luzer.
And I haven’t used any thing else but a razor for my southern arrias, I’m too shy for a wax, so I just shave verry carefully and use spray on secret deoaderent afterwords if I think I have razer birn, it helps, it’s an odd remity, but it is so much better than burning, and it prevents itching also.
good job laties this was an aussomly insightful topic.

Hi, you don't seem like a loser, my oldest sister swears by the Mach 3 rayzor. yes, deodorant works great for after a bikini line shave. If you don't have spray on, an excellent idea, use a tissue with regular or roll-on deodorant. Naturally, if you need to repeat the process, use a clean tissue. Also, hair conditioner works well as a shaving cream if you're out.

no one's judging. my best friend likes the jellet men's raisor, sorry I don't know the right spelling of it. She says it gives a great close shave.

Post 89 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Tuesday, 05-May-2009 13:03:42

Introduction

gosh i have enjoyed reading all these posts immensely. When I was younger, I would have given years of my life to have known of somewhere to frankly discuss these concerns. i have several comments on different topics so hope this makes sense.

period pain

Although I got a hysterectomy seven years ago, throughout the many years of dealing with st. madge of menstruation I have tried many strategies to make peace with aunt rose. Contrary to my mom's "have a stiff upper lip gal, grin and bear it, and you will live" philosophy, cramps are real and they hurt. Admitting we have them doesn't make us less grownup or womanly.

my daughter and i have both found that alieve, spelling or three to four advil works great. This is the 200mg over the counter ibuprofrin. Be sure to eat food when taking either of thos medications as otherwise you will get the mother of all stomach aches.

the trick is to take any nsaid as soon as you start feeling the pain. I liked The alieve best because i only had to take one or at most two and the effect lasts longer. prostaglandins are the hormone that causes cramping and non steroidal anti inflamatory drugs, nsaids, like the ones i mentioned inhibit the production and effect of prostaglandins.

other ways to help with cramps are exercise like walking, and warm baths. If your partner isn't too grossed out sex works great as well.

birth control pills, even the really low dose ones. work great for preventing and lessening cramps. If you are taking the low dose pill, it might be wise to use another form of contraception to make sure the pill ingredients is strong enough to prevent the arrival of pattering little feet. also they keep us regular.

i found that limmiting salt a week or so before the onset of aunt flo's visit worked to keep the cramps down. they say that's old fashioned, but it works for me.

period changes

one lady was mentioning a dramatic change in the length and flow of her period. if she can afford to do so, get this checked out soon. there are many factors from hormonal changes to weight fluctuations to premenopause or even ovarian cancer that can cause a dramatic difference. not trying to scare you, but that needs to be looked at pronto. Also if she has given birth and has recently stopped nursing the first period can be long and strong.

the bloody news

cold water works best for removing blood from underware. for really icky ones, put them in the tub with cold water and a little bleach and let them soak over night. also there are some products that are sold in stores for the purpose of removing "bodily fluids." Right now, i'm having a brain fart and can't think of their names.

conclusion

enough of my maundering and wandering. hope this has been helpful. enjoy your day.

Post 90 by season (the invisible soul) on Monday, 17-Aug-2009 1:36:59

for cleaning blood stain on undies, try using either soap, hand or body wash, and as some of the posters suggest use shampoo with either cold or warm water.
i use hand soap, as it help to cover all the area, and it allows me to control it better. but of course, that soap will be a soap for this purpose only, don't really fancy the idea of using the same soap for cleaning my hands.

as for bras, try to avoid them wash in a washing machine, or drier. and don't squiz them when you wash, let it clean by itself, it will keep the shape and in good condition. if you need to wash with washer machine, try to get those bras bag, they design to fit in bras, and usually they are quite good in keeping bras in shape by its own.

Post 91 by season (the invisible soul) on Monday, 17-Aug-2009 1:38:32

okay girls, i'm currently doing a research study on contreception methods for women who have visually impaired... as part of a major report for university study.
just wondering, what sort of contreceptive peals you on and why? if you on 28 days, how could you differentiate the peals for different days, and if you on 21 days, why you choose on 21 days?

bare in mind, i'm not the person who write the questions... hope there're not too offensive. :)

of course, all other kind of contreception methods are welcome.

basicly what we trying to achieve is to see if any disability at all, will effect us from the choice we can choose for contreception, and my part of the study will deal with visually impaired, as some other people deal with some other type of disabilities.

Post 92 by Geek Woman (Owner and Founder of Waldorf PC) on Monday, 17-Aug-2009 11:12:50

I’ve come in very late to the discussion, but I’m going to contribute.

1. When I used to wear underwear, I do not anymore because I lack both bladder and bowel control and now need diapers twenty-four/seven, I knew I’d get the blood out completely by scrubbing every inch of my panties by hand. I used my hands. Normally, I could tell, as if it still felt slimy in some areas, I knew that the blood was still there. The water was hot and had bleach and soap in it. I had to wash it a second time without the bleach, as bleach irritated my skin.
2. When I used to wear underwear, I used to use tampons all the time until my periods got extremely painful, which was at the age of eighteen. The thought of sticking a tampon in me while being in all that pain made me switch to very thick pads because by then, the bleeding was heavy. Then, after losing complete control of my bladder in 2005, I just wore the diaper. There would be no need for a pad anyhow if one wears diapers. Eventually, the bleeding and the pain got so unbearable that I got my period stopped by taking the depo Provera shot. It’s a Godsend.
3. As for shaving, I can’t win. I have burns no matter what, so I just deal with it and use a lot of lotion after. Nair burns me and so do razors. I’m thinking of getting the laser treatment, so I never have to deal with hair again.
4. I wear water bras. I love them a lot. They do have underwire, but they do not irritate like the classic bras do. You can get them at Wal-Mart. That is where I get mine. The gel bras work nicely too if you cannot find the water bras.
5. Do I have trouble with my periods? Yes, I always have. I was told by a doctor that childbearing would be a wiz for me. That is how much pain I was in. Also as I got older, the pain and the bleeding got worse. So, I have them stopped for now. When I want to bear children, I have to go through the bloody hell only for a short time.
6. I can’t help with sexual questions, as I’m still a virgin and wish to remain as such until I get married, which should be soon.

I hope that my contributions were helpful.

The only way to learn is to ask questions, it's better to ask questions than to assume something wrong and then say it. in my oppinion anyway. if you want to laugh at something.... based on reading a discription of a couple's action in a book i thought when the guy was done he peed in a woman because i didn't understand yet what ejaculate was all about. haha

Post 97 by Geek Woman (Owner and Founder of Waldorf PC) on Wednesday, 19-Aug-2009 17:51:49

My friend thought the same thing for the longest time. He thought that men had to pee into women in order to make children. Thankfully, i do know that is not true. I knnow about reproduction in the medical sense, but I'm not sure about sex too much. I know very little about sexual positions from what my friends told me, such as the missionary one. i also know about blow jobs, though, I'd never in my right mind want to do those, but my knowledge is limited. I know about fingering as well.

Ask away is what I say. If you are curious, there are enough people around that are willing to answer your questions for you. And there are enough that won't laugh at you also. The ones who laugh are just immature. ignore them. I'm by no means an expert, but I'd be willing to tell you what I can. You can contact me privately if you aren't comfortable asking questions on here.

Post 99 by Geek Woman (Owner and Founder of Waldorf PC) on Wednesday, 19-Aug-2009 18:17:06

Okay, here goes some of my questions:

1. I hear it hurts really bad when you have sex for the first few times. Is that true?

2. Do people soak the bedsheets.

3. Do normal people who do not have bladder problems and stuff like that ever have accidents during sex because they are too into it to know they have to go?

4. What kinds of positions are there?

5. Does it smell bad during sex?

6. What if you have to go to the bathroom during sex? Do you just stop and do it? If you stop and do that, will that mess everything up?

I'm sort of stomped. I can't think of anything else to ask at the moment. If I think of any more, and there are more, I'm going to ask them.

Post 100 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Wednesday, 19-Aug-2009 18:55:30

ok I'll try to do my best at these 1 question at a time.

1.
Yes this is true to an extent. The first few times that someone has sex it is likely to be painful do to tightness, and the first time they may be having their hyman broken. This is a piece of skin that covers part of the vaninal area. It can get broken for other reasons fhan sex how ever such as riding a horse or using tampons/sups.
2. .
As in soaking the sheets I assume you mean by cumming. This is possible to have quite wet sheets if a girl sprays or has multiple orgasms, usually it's more of a case of who ends up in the wet spot when things are done.
3.
I've never heard of it happening, and it hasn't happened to me. I know for guys if they are erect they can not go. If they have to I'm told it's quite painful due to the genatals being used for their other purpose. I am not quite sure of the physical aspect of this, but am deffinatly sure I'm glad a guy can't pee with a hard on. Talk about missing the boll.

4.
I will send you a private message when I get home with a website link i found that does an awsome job of discribing many different posissions I would look it up but I'm at work and let's just not say that i did. *smile
5.
It usually doesn't. it may smell a little sweaty or if a girl has an infection it may not be too pleasant for a guy giving oral. For the main part as long as you both have good hyjene you should be all right.

6.
I usually try to go if I know the mood is coming up especially if it will be a while. I make a habbit to go when finishing especially since there are risks of loobricants or different things that stay there too long too close to the urethra that could cause a uti which do not feel so great. Like I said for the guys if they have to go they might want to before becoming hard, or it will be painful.
them.

I hope this has answered some of your questions even if it's not to discriptive.

thanks for the poasts about bras. I broke on of candi's because I put it in the drier. I now no to leave them to dry. :) When a guy is hard u have two choices finish what your doing and then go to the bathroom wich males should also do after sex anyway. Or stop what your doing and go to the bathroom something that can take up to five minutes for things to go away so your able to go easily and not painfully. Personally I'd wait or if it was desperate go before hand.

Oh, and for Senior's Birth Control question. When I was on the Pill, I used the 28-day pack. It was round and the outsideedge had all the pillsfor the first 21 days, then the inside of the circle had 7 more placebo pillsfor when you were finished with the 21-day and those were practice pills that youcould take forwhen you got your period.

as for the contraception question. I used the pills that came in a rectangular pack. i can't think what they were called. the card could only go in the holder thingy one way. there were four rows of seven you just went from left to wright. go down the first row of seven etc.

i had anI also used another kind which had the pills in a circle and you turned the dial. it started at the first one and stopped clicking at the last. again it only fit in the container thingy one way. hope this helps

I wear a diva cup, and a panty liner for the small leakages. I used to make a little bit of a mess, even with tampons and pads, because they would leak even when I was careful to change often. nothing huge, but still a headache to try to clean. The diva cup is an alternative to pads and tampons. Its made of medical grade silicon, and is bell-shaped. Its flexible, so you can fit it inside you, and leave it in for 12 hours if need be. It empties easily and washes just as easily. If someone has already posted about this, I appologize.

I have got a question about periods. Why do some people get quite sick with them and some don't. I get sore Stomach, sore head and sore back and feel sick. But some times I wonder if it is because of the venlafaxine an ant depresent. Hopefully soon I will be off the Venlafaxine.

the topic of why we get sick with our periods is an interesting one. some of what i'm going to say might make someone mad. i hope not. as a long time sufferer of cramps and bitchiness, I have thought about and researched this a lot.

medicine can definitely effect our period pain intensity. if you have concerns about what you are taking, it is perfectly resonable to ask the doctor or nurse practitioner about it. additionally, there are some really good web sites, e.g., http:www.webmd.com where you might find out the deal about the drugs you are taking.

the reason we get cramps is because our uterus is a smooth muscle. it the body puts out prostaglandins which are a hormone that causes it to empty the stuff that goes in there preparatory to pregnancy. hence the period. if our hormones work too hard, we get the cramps. things like advil and motrin are prostaglandin inhibitors which is why they work so well for some people.

i think some of the period discomfort we get is culturally motivated. it seems that people in less developed countries don't have as much trouble or they are just tougher and grin and bare it.

our age can effect the cramps. if we are young, haven't had a baby, or conversely getting ready for menopause cramps can be worse.

if we gain or lose a lot of weight our period pain can change.

stres and trauma can aggravate our period.

i could go on and on and on. hope i've made some sense. if you have any questions or need clarification, please let me know.

oh i forgot endometriosis, which is the lining of the uterous going where it is not wanted can cause back pain. it can go on the outside of the uturus on the ovaries and on the bladder and other places.

additionally fibroids can cause pain. i have read that it doesn't matter the size but where they are located in the uturus.

bringing this back..i have a question. what causes uti's in women and what helps..

Post 117 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Thursday, 20-May-2010 11:27:38

if you know you have to pee, but hold it, that causes UTI's. I know cause I used to get them all the time when I was younger cause my mom would make me hold it in. as for what helps, don't hold it; when you gotta go, you gotta go.

The most common cause of urinary tract infections (UTIs) is bacteria from the bowel that live on the skin near the rectum or in the vagina, which can spread and enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once these bacteria enter the urethra, they travel upward, causing infection in the bladder and sometimes other parts of the urinary tract. One thing that can cause them is to wipe the wrong way (back to front, as opposed to the right way, front to back). Also, never sit on the toilet when you flush. The water splashes up, carrying all the nasty bacteria with it.

Sexual intercourse is a common cause of urinary tract infections because the female anatomy can make women more prone to urinary tract infections. During sexual activity, bacteria in the vaginal area are sometimes massaged into the urethra.

Another cause of bladder infections or UTI is waiting too long to urinate. The bladder is a muscle that stretches to hold urine and contracts when the urine is released. Waiting too long past the time you first feel the need to urinate can cause the bladder to stretch beyond its capacity. Over time, this can weaken the bladder muscle. When the bladder is weakened, it may not empty completely and some urine is left in the bladder. This may increase the risk of urinary tract infections or bladder infections.

Other factors that also may increase a woman's risk of developing UTI include pregnancy, having urinary tract infections or bladder infections as a child, menopause, or diabetes.

Antibiotics (medications that kill bacteria) are the usual treatment for bladder infections and other urinary tract infections. Seven to ten of antibiotics is usually required, although some infections may require only a single dose of antibiotics.

It's important that all antibiotics are taken as prescribed. Antibiotics should not be discontinued before the full course of antibiotic treatment is complete. Symptoms may disappear soon after beginning antibiotic treatment. However, if antibiotics are stopped early, the infection may still be present and recur.

An additional urine test may be ordered about a week after completing treatment to be sure the infection is cured.

The most important tip to prevent urinary tract infections, bladder infections, and kidney infections is to practice good personal hygiene. Always wipe from front to back after a bowel movement or urination, and wash the skin around and between the rectum and vagina daily. Washing before and after sexual intercourse also may decrease a woman's risk of UTI.
Drinking plenty of fluids (water) each day will help flush bacterium out of the urinary system.
Emptying the bladder as soon as the urge to urinate occurs also may help decrease the risk of bladder infection or UTI.
Urinating before and after sex can flush out any bacteria that may enter the urethra during sexual intercourse.
Vitamin C makes the urine acidic and helps to reduce the number of potentially harmful bacteria in the urinary tract system.
Wear only panties with a cotton crotch, which allows moisture to escape. Other materials can trap moisture and create a potential breeding ground for bacteria. Avoid thongs.
Cranberry juice is often said to reduce frequency of bladder infections, though it should not be considered an actual treatment. Cranberry supplements are available over-the-counter and many women find they work when an UTI has occurred; however, a physician's diagnosis is still necessary even if cranberry juice or related herbals reduce pain or symptoms.
If you experience frequent urinary tract infections, changing sexual positions that cause less friction on the urethra may help. Some physicians prescribe an antibiotic to be taken immediately following sex for women who tend to have frequent UTIs.

It’s been a while since I last checked this board, so please forgive the lateness of my response. To the person who has PCOS and has recently experienced a change in the way you experience your periods, you may want to have your doctor run a few tests to make sure everything is okay as far as your hormones are concerned. Sometimes changing your medications can effect your periods as well. PCOS can really be a bitch if it goes untreated. Also, I think the way it affects your body can change over time as well. Or at least this has been the case with me.
